Just as cupid draws back his bow and aims his little arrow towards a sea of lonely love lorn hearts, an exhibit currently on view at the Guggenheim finds the time to rub a little more salt into the wounds of the all the subjects of singledom. There, on the floor, of the now barren spiraling gallery space, one can find a couple in a pda-fueled “changing, slow-motion, amorous” embrace. Trained dancer and European artist Tino Sehgal's artwork "The Kiss" is an ephemeral, ever-changing piece that requires an empty space and viewer engagement, as do most of the artworks in Sehgal's oeuvre. The artwork is comprised of two dancers, a male and a female, entangled together on the floor, whose ever-changing poses are supposed to remind the viewer of famous kisses throughout art history.
Flavorpill was so inspired by the titilatting Guggenheim "kiss" they staged their own "kisses" at other museums around NYC.While I fully support the single lad/ladies boycott of the silly "Hallmark" holiday that is Valentine's Day, I however, am NOT single and will be enjoying my very own "kisses" all over the San Diego Zoo this weekend!
